To expand on the statement above... some of the other factors that can affect your healthcare, aside from your health insurance coverage, are the healthcare network, whether the provider is a part of a large medical group or if they're a private practice, whether the provider accepts any insurance at all or if they offer a highly discounted rate for their services if you (as the patient) pay cash up front, and arguably most importantly... who your advocate or "Bodyguard" is that's assisting you with navigating through all of these different factors.
Since we've rolled out our Advocacy division here at BMT, one thing above all else has become totally clear as to why an advocate is so necessary... and that's the simple fact that literally NO ONE throughout the healthcare industry is on the "same page!" From primary care docs, to imaging centers, to surgeons, hospitals, labs, out patient facilities, and the list goes on and on... None of them communicate with one another, and they all just do they're own thing and stay in their own lane. The problem with that though, is patients don't travel through one lane of healthcare. They may need to travel through many lanes during their healthcare journey in order to receive the treatment that they ultimately need. And as patients travel from lane to lane, these healthcare providers are sticking to their own methods or operating procedures, and not taking into account what any other provider might have done or not done already for the patient.
There has to be that one facilitator, or advocate that's there to hold it all together. When a patient's primary healthcare provider is on the same page with their specialists, and the imaging center, and the labs, and as their health insurance carrier... something magical happens for that patient's healthcare experience... it's called EFFICIENCY!!!
